32 participants tallied 66 species today on our tour of Happy Valley Forest and Palgrave Conservation area. The highlight of the trip was a very cooperative Acadian Flycatcher in the Happy Valley forest, a new species for some members of the group. After a short rainfall, the forest floor was littered with Eastern Newts. A male Scarlet Tanager sitting down low near the forest floor, with recently fledged young, was another real crowd pleaser. Unfortunately we dipped out on the Hooded Warblers which had been singing in a couple spots only two weeks ago. On the way to lunch we had two Black-billed Cuckoo, Cliff Swallows and Eastern Bluebirds
Moving on to the Palgrave area after lunch we were treated to displaying Golden-crowned Kinglets and numerous singing Pine Warblers. Also seen were Green Heron, Broad-winged Hawk and Purple Finch Thanks to all the participants and to Rhonda Donley from the Nature Conservancy who accompanied us today. -- John Schmelefske # 7360 RR # 4 Alliston, Ontario,Canada, L9R 1V4 Email: [email protected] Watercolour Gallery: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2001214&id=1051632050&l=ea990bf4ce _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
