July 31 - At Rock Point Provincial Park there were 900 Double-crested Cormorants, 4 Mute Swans (west end of Mohawk Island) a build up of many migrant Yellow Warblers, 4 Least Sandpipers, 14 Semipalmated Sandpipers, a SANDERLING, and a LONG-TAILED DUCK. Rock Point is on the north shore of Lake Erie 35 miles west of Fort Erie. Going north 2 miles on Downy Road from Rock Point and turning left west (for a mile) on Rhymer Road to Mosaic Pond. At Mosaic ponds there were 62 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 2 Least Sandpipers, 6 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 6 Greater Yellowlegs, 24 Lesser Yellowlegs, 2 Semipalmated Plovers, and two Blue-winged Teals. Traveling east along Regional Road 3 at Grabiel Point: 23 Semipalmated Plovers, 2 Least Sandpipers, and an immature Bald Eagle. In Fort Erie traveling eastward along the north shore of Lake Erie from Stonemill Road to the Niagara River there was a total of: 140 Common Mergansers (this and the Long-tailed Duck indicate post breeding diving duck dispersal is underway) 88 Semipalmated Sandpipers 18 Least Sandpipers 9 Semipalmated Plovers 26 Caspian Terns Best Wishes for Great Birding, Bill Watson _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
