Tues 13/8 2.45pm-4.00pm. Many thanks for the original post on this bird and to
Mike, who had already located it when Liz and I arrived. Initially, it was in
the north-east corner of Cell 3 and quite distant, diving constantly.
Unbelievably, it eventually swam to within 40 feet of the blind, allowing
excellent views. There was a Phalarope species in the south-west corner of Cell
1 (located by Mike), which after much deliberation, we determined to be
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, based on bill-length and the prominent "eye patch". In
Cell 2, I had a count of 7 DOWITCHER SPECIES, the closer ones being Juvenile
Short-billed, the others just too far to see detail. Directions:- From Port
Stanley, follow #4 along the east side of the river to Warren Street. Turn LEFT
onto Warren and follow it to Scotch Line. Turn RIGHT onto Scotch Line and
follow it to the 2 Blinds. A scope is essential and even then, the distant
birds will be hard to identify. Eric & Liz Jeffery, St. Marys.
