This week there have been good numbers of migrating species but shorebird 
numbers and variety continues to be limited. 
 
A very successful OFO trip on September 8th found 92 of the migratory and 
resident species which can be found at this time on a good day in our area. 
Notable species found were:
- warbler (15) at the Britannia Conservation Area and Shirley's Bay: 
BLACK-AND-WHITE, TENNESSEE, ORANGE-CROWNED, NASHVILLE, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 
AMERICAN REDSTART, CAPE MAY, NORTHERN PARULA, MAGNOLIA, BAY-BREASTED, 
BLACKBURNIAN, YELLOW, CHESTNUT-SIDED, BLACKPOLL, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, PALM, 
YELLOW-RUMP and BLACK-THROATED GREEN
- vireo (4) at the Britannia Conservation Area and Shirley's Bay: RED-EYED, 
WARBLING, BLUE-HEADED and PHILADELPHIA
- herons (5): BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, GREEN, GREAT-BLUE, GREAT EGRET and 
AMERICAN BITTERN
- hawks (9): SHARP-SHINNED, COOPER'S, BROAD-WINGED, NORTHERN HARRIER, 
RED-TAILED, OSPREY, AMERICAN KESTREL, BALD EAGLE and TURKEY VULTURE
- shorebirds (7) at Shirley's Bay and Almonte lagoon: SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 
GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, LEAST, PECTORAL, SEMIPALMATED and SPOTTED 
SANDPIPER
 
Also reported this week were: GOLDEN PLOVER (3 adults) at Twin Elm rd and 
Barnsdale Rd on the 6th, AMERICAN PIPIT (1) at the Shirley's Bay mudflats on 
the 8th, WILSON'S PHALAROPE (1) at the Russell lagoon on the 6th, THAYER'S GULL 
(1) at the Russell Dump on the 7th, SNOW GOOSE (1) at Carling Ave and Herzberg 
Rd on the 8th and (4) at the Alfred lagoon on the 10th, at the Britannia 
Conservation Area RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET (1) on the 7th and CANADA WARBLER on the 
11th and RED-NECKED PHALAROPE (1) at the Shirley's Bay mud flats on the 10th 
and 11th.
