Yesterday evening at approximately 6:45 pm I spent an hour on the 12th Line of
New Tecumseth and was delighted to find a great diversity of shorebirds
totaling 12 species.

200+ American Golden Plover, with mixed adults and juveniles were the greatest
shorebirds present in numbers, with at least 2 Buff-breasted Sandpipers on the
dry sod following the group.

A juvenile Red Knot was furiously probing in the only visible body of sitting
water among the good number of peeps. Bird identified by its black subterminal
lines, white fringes around the feathers of its upperparts, dull yellow legs, a
short straight bill and barring on flanks.

Other shorebirds present included: Pectoral Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover,
Least Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, White-rumped Sandpiper, Killdeer,
Baird's Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs and at least 4 Black-bellied Plover.

Directions: Travel West from the 10th Sideroad about 2km along the 12th Line.
Birds were in the field on the South side of the road.

Good Birding,

Dave Szmyr
