The two Marbled Godwits were still feeding on the mudflat at Mitchell's Bay
this afternoon.
The one was first seen September 20, then two were present October 8, so
they must like the place! I did not see them Friday afternoon so obviously
they did not leave.
The only other shorebird there was a Dunlin.
Four Great Egrets were in the vicinity.
In the distance, close to 300 Mute Swans were visible and close to 1000
American Coots. Seems to be a good place for coots as well! Last year on
October 23 I estimated 6000 in the same spot.
Directions:
Off highway 40 south of Wallaceburg, find Electric Line (west) (county road
42). Follow to Bear Line and make a short jog to the left over to Bay Line.
Follow Bay Line straight into the village to the waterfront. A park and
parking lot are on the right. The godwit feeds on the mud in front of the
marina to the north.
