Just as we were leaving CSSP, Garth Riley and I happened to relocate an adult
male Harlequin duck that had been found and seen earlier in the morning by both
Bob Cumming and Garth. The bird was still there when we left and was last seen
at about 12:45pm associating with a flock of buffleheads off the eastern side
of the park and near the tip of nearby Rotary Park.
During the morning we also saw a total of 14 Brant flying southwest past the
Whimbrel Watch area plus 1 additional Brant that provided great looks as it
foraged along the shoreline of the middle bay of CSSP's three eastern bays
before it took flight and left the area.
Colonel Sam Smith Park is located south of the intersection of Kipling Ave. and
Lakeshore Blvd. Rotary Park nearly adjoins CSSP to the east and is located at
the intersection of 11th Street and Lakeshore Drive (not Lakeshore Blvd).
