The female King Eider was still present at dusk (ca. 5 pm) on Wednesday. She has spent most of her time foraging surprisingly close to shore, say 10-20 m away. Many photos were taken by numerous people. At dusk she was associating with two pairs of Mallards, making for a nice comparison to the two female Mallards. A keener with a good light might be able to find her this evening. Mike Runtz and I left her in resting posture, alone, which suggests she is spending the night there. What a wonderful day with a who's who of birders from the Ottawa region assembled at a manicured city park!
