Subject: [GeneseeBirds-L] Niagara River Elegant Tern map
I put together a quick map of the Niagara River around the south end of Grand
Island. You can view it as an image and also download it from flickr
(original/full-size) here:
www.flickr.com/photos/jmpawli10<http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmpawli10>
KEY:
Red Rectangle: rocky shallows just offshore the park where the bird was found
and seen early afternoon.
Orange Line w/Arrow: direction bird was seen flying in from during last
observation.
Green Lines w/Arrow: direction bird was seen flying following last observation.
Orange Ovals/Circles: locations were Bonaparte's Gulls and Ring-billed Gulls
(and in summer, Common and Caspian Terns) have regularly been observed
sitting/loafing. These places from east to west on the map are: the two "arms"
of Strawberry Island, (recently re-created) by NYSDEC rocky Frog Island, the
swimming beach at Beaver Island State Park, and then the small rocky jetty at
the marina docks at Beaver Island.
Dark Red Oval/Circle: Sheridan Drive Boat Launch in Tonawanda (mainland) --
another observation point on mainland to view Frog and Strawberry Islands.
The yellow line running down the river is the international border between the
United States (NY) and Canada (Ontario).
