A check of Amherst Island today with Hans van der Zweep revealed an ice
locked island. There is no open water and consequently no ducks or gulls
were seen. The ferry channel closes in as the boat moves through. We did
not attempt to access the Owl Woods.

We had more Snowy Owls than expected; 12 were scattered across the island.
Most were seen from 3-5 pm. We also had a bird north of Bath Rd east of the
ferry terminal.
Other birds of interest included:

6 Red-tailed Hawks
1 adult Bald Eagle
2 American Kestrels
1 Northern Shrike
1 Barred Owl (not in the owl woods)
1 Red-bellied Woodpecker
1 Cowbird
