About 09:00 this morning I found a male HARLEQUIN DUCK at the head of Stag
Island. This breeding-plumaged male was a bit closer to the Michigan side,
so a good scope was required to see it from Guthrie Park, Corunna. It would
be easier from the Marysville side in the afternoon. There is a walkway
there, so there is access.
The duck was still present when I left an hour ago.
Most of the waterfowl activity on the river was at the head of Stag Island
first thing this morning. Most ducks downriver had dispersed compared to
recent days.
Also present were at least 20 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and 3 CACKLING GEESE at
Stag Island. Thousands of LONG-TAILED DUCKS were working the river as
usual.
The 4 RED-NECKED GREBES were in close at Cathcart Park this morning
affording good views in the morning sun.
Directions:
Corunna is on the St. Clair Parkway just south of Sarnia. Find Guthrie Park
north of Corunna village and go to the south parking lot and look from
there.
