Ontbirds subscribers,

It was quite a good afternoon for viewing arriving geese today. Just northwest
of Whitby Harbour, on the soccer fields across from the Abilities Centre at the
southeast corner of Victoria St. W. and Gordon St., I found a flock of 68
Cackling Geese in among close to 4000 Canada Geese feeding on the lawns there.
Before I could scan through all of the geese, someone came and ran their dogs
through the area. This scattered about 90% of the geese into the air and they
flew off to both the west and northwest, many flying off north of Hwy 401 - a
noisy and impressive sight.

In driving down Halls Rd. S. a little later, I found 3 Greater White-fronted
Geese feeding with about 80 Canada Geese in the corn stubble on the east side
of Halls Rd. S. about 400 metres south of Victoria St. W. They were still
present when I left about an hour ago.

Directions: Take Hwy 401 to Exit 410 (Brock St.) and proceed south on Brock St.
to Victoria St. W. Turn right (west) onto Victoria St. W. and immediately watch
for the soccer fields on the left before the lights at Gordon St. across from
the Abilities Centre. Many of these geese will likely return to the Whitby
Harbour area in the late afternoon. Proceed further west about 2.8 km. on
Victoria St. W. where you can turn left (south) on Halls Rd. S. and the fields
north and west of Cranberry Marsh, another good spot for geese.
