Recent reports to June 19, 2014

Three Swans, most likely TRUMPETER SWANS were seen on the 14th at 7:50 a.m. 
flying east over the Moodie Dr ponds and again at 8:30 a.m. flying into a marsh 
south west of the International Airport. 

The EURASIAN WIGEON (male) continues on the grass or along the shore of the 
Ottawa River at the mouth of the Rideau Canal.

The hydro line and woods along Thomas Dolan Pkwy before and after Stoncrest Rd 
continue to be active with over 50 species including GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, 
SCARLET TANAGER, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, VEERY, HERMIT THRUSH, OVENBIRD, 
BLACK-AND-WHITE, YELLOW, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, AMERICAN REDSTART and 
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, FIELD, SONG, SWAMP and WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, EASTERN 
TOWHEE and RUFFED GROUSE.

Rogers Pond along the Rideau Trail in Marlborough Forest was very active on the 
18th with 28 species including AMERICAN WOODCOCK, VEERY, HERMIT THRUSH, CEDAR 
WAXWING, OVENBIRD, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, BLACK-AND-WHITE, NASHVILLE, COMMON 
YELLOWTHROAT and BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS.

Reports from area lagoons: 
St. Albert - one each AMERICAN COOT, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER 
and LESSER-YELLOWLEGS
WINCHESTER - SNOW GOOSE (1)
RUSSELL - COMMON GALLINULE, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, BLACK DUCK, NORTHERN SHOVELER, 
RUDDY DUCK and PIED-BILLED GREBE

There were 27 BLACK TERNS over the Ottawa River Lochaber Bay in Rockland on the 
15th.     

Due to widespread concerns regarding disturbance of wildlife and property, the 
OFNC's Birds Committee no longer reports OWL sightings on the internet. We will 
continue to encourage the reporting of owls to [email protected] for the local 
records.
