Other than that, outside some early haze, today was mostly sunny and clear. The wind was light and out of the east early, shifting more southeast late. Raptor Observations: Like clockwork, Broad-winged Hawks were again up and active right around 1000 am. Not as many were counted today as the previous three days but today many of the kettles and attendant streams were lower and closer, which resulted in a high quality if not volume heavy flight. Non-raptor Observations: Northern Pintail (2), Blue-winged Teal (5), Blue Jay (200+), Chimney Swift (20+) Predictions: Partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers after noon. The wind is forecast to be moderate and out of the southwest. Hopefully, the rain stays away and there's still a few more broadwings out there for Hawk Fest participants to enjoy this weekend. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
