Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 9 hours
Official Counter: Jennifer Lyon
Observers: Clive Hodder, Derek Lyon, Don Campbell, Keith Sealy,
Tom Bolohan
Visitors:
There were about 15 visitors today...and again thanks to everyone that
helped with today's count.
Weather:
Very cool to start the morning at just 8C and getting to a high of 16C. The
flight got off to a good start because the winds were initially light from
the NW before switching all the way around to ESE. Some cloud to start the
day and then more cloud building in for the afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Today's flight was spread from the lake shore to a ways inland with the
Broadwings still flooding through in good numbers! Birds started early with
8 Harriers & 2 Osprey in the first 1/2 hour and the Broadwing flight
started early as well on the NW winds. The end of the day brought a strong
showing of N. Harriers, giving the counters and visitors great views from
the mound. Our last bird of the day was an Osprey low along the cliff.
All around an excellent day!
Total today was the highest yet for this season at 33,704 with Broadwings
(33,346), an excellent count for N. Harriers (57), Ospreys (7), just a few
countable Bald Eagles (3), Sharpies (199), a single Cooper's Hawk, Kestrels
(88) and another few Peregrines (3).
Non-raptor Observations:
Some non-raptor observations for today...RT Hummingbirds (not as many
today), BB Plover, Red bellied woodpecker, 2 Common Loons, Great Blue Heron
flyover, BC Night-heron, Pheobe
Blue Jays - 318 counted today
Just 20 Monarchs tallied today with some dragonflies...
Saddlebags, Green darners.
Predictions:
Well....strong SW winds are predicted for Saturday which can certainly
bring some falcons along the cliff.
