The wind was moderate and out of the west and northwest. Raptor Observations: After a two day break, the broadwings were back in force, streaming through steadily into the evening hours. Along with them came not only a nice trickle of Sharp-shinned and Cooper's hawks but also our third and fourth Swainson's Hawks of the season, both of whom offered up lengthy looks. Otherwise, Northern Harriers and Bald Eagles began to assert themselves once again but American Kestrels remained mostly inactive. Non-raptor Observations: Red-headed Woodpecker (1), Northern Flicker (8), Blue Jay (1200+), Common Loon (1), Lesser Scaup (10), Pied-billed Grebe (2) Cape May Warbler (4) Predictions: Mostly sunny with light southwest winds. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
