Visitors:
We had lots of enthusiastic visitors today: locals; people from Manitoulin,
Ontario and Toronto, Ontario; Ohio; and Michigan.
Weather:
A 9C morning with winds from the N. As the day warmed and cloud cover broke
up, the wind changed direction and came from the W. Visibility was good,
going up to 17km.
Raptor Observations:
There were three periods of the day where most of the numbers came through
with lulls between. The morning was productive for Sharp-shinned Hawks
while the winds were from the N but the day was not warm yet. With some
rising thermals in the early afternoon came around 100 Broad-winged Hawks
and some Turkey Vultures despite the wind switch to the W. Another small
push of Sharp-shins arrived near the end of the day with another wind
switch from the WNW.
Non-raptor Observations:
The Blue Jay count is going well, with 2260. Thanks Scott Fauteux for being
as excited about them as I am! One Snowy Egret was seen very briefly in the
early morning and throughout the day we had 114 American Goldfinches, 6
Common Nighthawks, 4 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and 3 Killdeer. 10
Monarchs. For others, see today's eBird list
http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S19910597
Predictions:
Winds coming from the West all day with temperatures rising to 21C.
