Rob Fry and I saw one this afternoon in a field with Canada Geese near the
Alfred Bog boardwalk.

Directions:

While heading east on HWY 17 turn right (south) on Cty Rd 15 (Station rd)
just before the town of Alfred. In the big curve don't continue to your
right on cty rd 15, instead go straight onto Giroux Rd. From here follow the
bogwalk signs or when Giroux Rd. meets Concession Rd 11 turn left (east) and
drive a few hundred meters to the parking lot. As you head towards the
bogwalk you will see fields on each side of the road. The rare goose was
seen in these fields (flying back and forth and vocalizing a lot).

Just before discovering the rare goose, I was on the bogwalk with Rob Fry
when he took a photo of a bird straight ahead of us in a small stand of
trees. I was watching Black-throated Green Warblers beside him. I did not
see his bird. When he showed me the photo of his mystery bird I noticed he
had captured the image of a male Blue-winged Warbler. After much searching
we did not re-locate the bird. This warbler is very rare in these parts.
