We were also joined by a grade 9 class from Maranatha Christian Academy on a field trip with ERCA. Weather: A nice, sunny day with no clouds. Winds came from the W, with S components a little later on. Raptor Observations: Sharp-shinned hawks were flying well throughout the day, close to the tower. Young Northern Harriers were also quite obliging, giving everyone nice looks at their "pumpkin" coloured bellies as they meandered over the tower. Turkey Vultures and 141 Broad-wings went by at the north end of the marsh. All in all, a nice steady stream of 9 species. Non-raptor Observations: We had 22 species of migrating non-raptors including 4790 Blue Jays , 110 Cedar Waxwings and 187 American Goldfinches. Quite a few warblers were in the trees around the marsh this morning as well as 85 Red-winged Blackbirds that headed out today and 4 White-throated Sparrows. 43 Monarchs. For a complete list of species seen today see eBird http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S19918672 Predictions: Winds at 10-15km/h from the East all day with temperatures up to 21C. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
