Sixty-four species of birds were observed by myself and 5 others at Cranberry yesterday:

Highlights include 1002 hawks, eagles, falcons, vultures and allies:

Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura) 780
Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) 1 (2nd year - photographed)
Northern Harrier (Circus cyaneus) 13
Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus) 109
Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii) 2
Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) 6 ( 4 immature, 1 @ 4th yr. subadult and 1 adult)
Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) 19
American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) 63
Merlin (Falco columbarius) 7
small falcon sp. (Falco sp. (small falcon sp.)) 1

Additionally, 20 species of waterfowl were noted, including one Cackling Goose, 4 Canvasbacks, 1 RN Duck and a male White-winged Scoter. The Canvasback and scoter are rarely seen in the marsh and the high winds on the lake may have driven them "inland". A single Horned Grebe in the marsh was also unexpected.

Five egrets did not sport wing bands. 150 American Pipits represented a high count - flocks moved through between 9 and 11 a.m. - estimate likely conservative.
