But imbued with a faint tinge of austere beauty, beating back any sense of gloom. Raptor Observations: Red-tailed Hawks fought the strong west wind, bounding south in bunches in the afternoon. And a wily pair of Gray Ghosts picked a fine day to try and sneak by but their effort proved unsuccessful. Non-raptor Observations: Snow Goose (1), Tundra Swan (140+), Horned Grebe (30+), Common Loon (5), Bonaparte's Gull (80+), Ruddy Duck (13), Bufflehead (8), Red-breasted Merganser (3), Hooded Merganser (2), Tree Swallow (1), American Tree Sparrow (1), Cedar Waxwing (13), European Starling (60+) Predictions: Mostly cloudy with cold temps, moderate west wind and a 50 percent chance of light snow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
