Weather: Very cold, -10 in first hour, rising to -8 in next two hours. Wind was strong West @ 50k gusting to 70k. Snow and blowing/drifting snow. The sky was clear with about 50% puffy white clouds early in the count but changed to near solid overcast at the end of the second hour. Raptor Observations: Two near identical juvie looking GOLDEN EAGLES passed through low and right overhead, one at the end of the first hour and the second minutes later, in the second hour. The first ROUGHLEG was a dark morph and the second was a light morph. Non-raptor Observations: Peering out from the shelter of our cars today, we did manage to spot a few non-raptors that were out and about including 4 Tundra Swans, and a Northern Shrike. A few Wild Turkeys dotted the treeline far to the east of us at the B&B while Am. Crows flew back and forth low over the field and some Snow Buntings headed west along the treeline at the north end of the field and a small flock of Red-winged Blackbirds struggled westwards right over our observation spot at the B&B. After 1 PM at the Ridge, there were the usual Canada Geese and Mallards, Horned Larks in the fields just south of there and 2 Juncos along the treeline at the top of the ridge. Not bad for not even getting out of our cars! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.on.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
