Hello again, Winter has come early for many but we still do not have the bird numbers at the feeders I was expecting.
I have: a flock of about 10 Evening Grosbeaks; 3 Pine Grosbeaks: 20 plus Black- Capped Chickadees; 7 Blue Jays; 2 Gray Jays; 1 Red winged black bird; 1 Common Grackle; 1 European Starling; Downey and Hairy Woodpeckers and A 'fly by' Pileated. Until a few days ago I had one white throated sparrow. I also have a resident ruffed grouse. We still have Bald Eagles. This summer saw the greatest number of Bald Eagles, young and adults..... ever. Lots of Turkey vultures this past summer too..I once counted 18 circling overhead....at my house! Turkey vultures were unheard of in my area while I was growing up. Cheers all, Gert Trudel Gowganda On, Temiskaming dist. 6 hours North of Toronto via hwy 11N. If you are interested in some pictures of the eagles and other birds and one fantastic video of a rough -legged hawk at a beaver carcass in the neighbour's yard...see gowgandaphotography.blogspot.ca/ ( by Bill Fox) To shorten your search...Dates are; Oct.28, for the RLHA and Eagles are Sept.10 and April 12 and 13 plus others of ospreys at their nest. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
