Recent reports to November 20, 2014

BOREAL CHICKADEE was found near the intersection of Renfrew St and Forbes St in 
Pakenham on the 17th but was not subsequently found.

HARLEQUIN DUCK (f) found on the Rideau River on the 4th continues on the Rideau 
River at Strathcona Park.
EVENING GROSBEAK are being found at numerous locations: 2 along Terry Fox Dr, 
11 in Pakenham with RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER (1m and 1 imm m), 5 along the Kerwin 
Trail with BOHEMIAN WAXWING (2) and at the feeders on Indian Creek Rd at the 
west edge of Larose Forest with COMMON REDPOLL (15).
The ponds west of the Shirleys Bay causeway continue to be active. Last 
Saturday and Sunday one birder found: Horned Grebe (1), 17 species of ducks 
including White-winged Scoter (2), Black Scoter (1), Long-tailed Ducks (5), 
Common Goldeneye (several 100's), Ring-necked Duck (3), Scaups (100+), 
Red-breasted Merganser (4), Green-winged Teal (2), American Wigeon (4), Gadwall 
(3), Northern Shoveler (10), Black Duck (70) and Common Loon (2) and Bald Eagle 
(2 adults). 
A number of gull species have been found at the Trail Rd landfill this past 
week. The numbers vary day to day but up to 150 RING-BILLED, 700 HERRING, 36 
GREAT BLACK-BACKED, 4 LESSER BLACK-BACKED and immature GLAUCOUS (2) and ICELAND 
(3) GULLS have been seen. Also seen from Trail Rd have been MERLIN, PEREGRINE 
FALCON, RED-TAILED and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, SNOW BUNTING (50), TREE SPARROW and 
COMMON REDPOLL (5). The nearby Moodie Dr quarry ponds are occasionally 
frequented by thousands of CANADA and a few SNOW GEESE, a variety of ducks and 
on the 15th a flyby of an immature GOLDEN EAGLE.
On the 19th at Mooneys Bay there GREAT BLACK-BACKED (75 ad, 6 imm) and GLAUCOUS 
(1) Gull with COMMON MERGANSER (30).

Interesting sightings were: BRANT (2 imm) at Andrew Haydon Park with a 
RED-NECKED GREBE on the 17th, thousands of SNOW GEESE were on the Little Castor 
River at the St Albert Rd (hwy 5) bridge south east of Embrun on the 14th and 
15th, HORNED LARK (100+) along Rushmore Rd all week and a FOX SPARROW in 
Richmond on the 20th.
