Ron Scovell, long time birder and personal friend of many in the Ontario
birding community, died Sunday morning at Lanark House in Waterloo.
Ron suffered from progressive dementia for several years and recently was
recovering from hip surgery.

He was a long time Toronto resident, having moved to the long term care
facility in Waterloo where his daughter resides.

Over the past years he had been active in a number of wildlife and birding
organizations. While his first love was birding, his second was the study and
collection of ferns. He was a world birder; led birding tours locally and
internationally; collected bird books and bird art and was skilled at drawing
birds and wildlife.

Among his many other interests were classical music, photography, singing in a
choir, bridge and sports. He was a Leafs and Blue Jays fan and had actively
skied, played badminton and tennis and after retirement, seniors’ softball.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalized.
