This evening at 6:45pm I found a Lark Sparrow at Lemoine Point Conservation Area, Kingston. It was initially in with a flock of juncos, taking grit from the side of the trail but I lost it after a few minutes due to the birds being disturbed by numerous walkers etc. After about another 20 minutes, it reappeared in the same spot, on its own and continued to provide very good viewing until about 7:30 when it flew up into nearby conifers, presumably to roost. It was far less nervous without the juncos around. A couple of pics can be found below.
Directions: The southern car park at Lemoine Point is situated just west of Kingston Airport on Front Road. Since there are numerous access points into Kingston the best bet is to keep heading south through the city until you reach the waterfront at Lake Ontario. This will most likely be either King Street or Front Road. Take this west as far as it goes, passing the airport on the way. Park up and take the trail that goes north from the car park. After about 500m or so, there is a trail that cuts west across the grassland. The bird was favouring a spot on the east of the N-S trail about 50m before this junction. Mark. Mark D.
