For all of those who wrote for detailed directions to Sobeys Pond after my posting, I could see the original message with directions was only two messages before mine in Ontbirds when I posted and as we were in the field with a bad connection that was the best I could send at the time. Here are more detailed directions. Sobeys Pond is an unofficial spot consisting of some flooded areas in front of Sobeys warehouse in Whitby. From the 401 take the Brock Street exit in Whitby (not Pickering). Take Brock south to Victoria Street, turn right (west) and travel several lights to Montecorte. Turn right again and drive one block to Montecorte and Nordeagle and you will see the small pond on the south side of Nordeagle. The bird is foraging in the open and behind reeds so be patient if not immediately obvious
