Hello Everyone,
I took 2 trips to the Blenheim lagoons today (Friday, May 1) and each trip
produced some good birds. Around noon, I met up with Gerry Binsfield and
he and I saw the lingering *short-eared owl* and the second cycle *glaucous
gull* that has also been hanging around there. We looked for the baird's
sandpipers that Jean Iron reported yesterday but were unable to find them.
The large flock of dunlin had flown soon after we had arrived and perhaps
they were in that flock.
I went back at 3:00 where I met up with Reuven Martin and he and I were
both armed with 'scopes. Again, the flock of dunlin flew but the 2 *baird's
sandpipers* remained, as did a nice female *wilson's phalarope*. Other
shorebirds present today were 11 pectoral sandpipers, 13 lesser yellowlegs,
3 least sandpipers and a few killdeer and spotted sandpipers. The adult
tundra swan was still there, as well.
Thanks for the heads-up on these uncommon spring migrants, Jean.

Directions
The lagoons are 1 km west of the town of Blenheim (Chatham-Kent) on Lagoon
Road north off Highway 3. The shorebirds are usually found in the sprinkler
cells at the north end. This was the case today.
