Hello Ontbirders

The north bound migration continues at a slow pace in the Ottawa region. I
spent the morning birding Mud Lake/Britannia Conservation Area. Overall, quiet
with a few migrants, mainly Yellow-rumped Warblers and Pine Warblers. The big
surprise was a male Black-throated Blue Warbler singing and foraging up high in
the White Pines. My earliest record for the Ottawa district. Despite only a
small number of warblers we also had great views of a brightly plumaged male
Yellow Palm Warbler as it fed and sang along the north east corner of Mud Lake.
This is one of the few times I’ve observed this subspecies outside of their
know breeding areas at the Mer Bleue Bog and Alfred Bog. There were also a
couple of late lingering Bohemian Waxwings with Cedar Waxwings near the
entrance to Mud Lake. Back in Carp the first Chimney Swifts of the season
arrived. Hopefully with southwest winds tonight there will be more migrants
tomorrow!

Good birding,

Bruce
