This morning there was a male black-backed woodpecker in a red pine plantation that was burned (prescribed burn) a week ago in the Northumberland County Forest.
Directions: From the 401 take Northumberland County Road 45 north (goes north from Cobourg). Follow for 14km until you reach Beagle Club Road (just after you pass under a hydro line). Turn left onto Beagle Club Road and follow north to the Northumberland County Forest Beagle Club Road parking (on the left approximately 400m from County Road 45). The bird was in the burned around on the south side of the parking entrance and was also on the east side of Beagle Club Road in the white pine stand (but mostly in the burn). DO NOT PARK ON BEAGLE CLUB ROAD!!!!! Park in the parking area. Please also be aware that the field at the west edge of the plantation is private property. There is no entrance fee.
