Hello All,
Jean and I were at Jones Beach in St. Catharines late this morning to search
for the Snow Goose (Port Weller) posted on the Ontbirds Facebook page. The
goose was not there but we were excited to find a lifer Whimbrel. We observed
it for a couple of minutes before it took flight and flew westwards along the
shoreline. We observed it land behind a white building near the docks at the
St. Catharines Marina. Jean and I found the Whimbrel again in the grassy area
used for trailer parking just west of the marina. Great views of the bird as it
was digging and feeding on invertebrates. First observed at 11:20 AM. We left
the marina at 12:00 PM and the Whimbrel was still present.
Cheers,
Bob Highcock and Jean Hampson
