Warm when the sun was visible and cool when it wasn't, waves of puffy white clouds wafted in and out of view throughout, periodically obscuring the sun. The wind was light and out of the west. Raptor Observations: After a quiet morning, activity increased slightly in the afternoon, bringing some decent variety on a day of limited volume. All three falcon species put in an appearance and Bald Eagles had their best outing in some time but buteos were mostly absent and harriers entirely so. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jay (24000+), Red-winged Blackbird (1800+), Rusty Blackbird (20+), Common Grackle (6), Horned Lark (25+), Pine Siskin (20+), American Goldfinch (65+), Chimney Swift (40+), Killdeer (9), Monarch (5) Predictions: Mostly cloudy with mild temps and light southeast wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
