Ontbirds subscribers,
At 5:10 p.m. I discovered an Ash-throated Flycatcher adjacent to Corner Marsh
in Ajax. I first found the bird flying on the east side of the very winding
portion of Jodrel Rd. (where the fall colours of the trees on the west side of
the marsh are very vivid). I watched the bird for about fifteen minutes hunting
from weed stalks on both sides of the road. It crossed over the east fence of
the Duffin's Creek Water Pollution Control Plant, and moved south a bit to near
where the road turns due east, but was still feeding on the ground just inside
the fence when I left the site about forty minutes ago.
Directions:
Take Hwy 401 to Brock Rd. (Exit 399) in Pickering, exit and go south to
Baseline Rd./Bayly St. (Durham Regional Rd 22). Turn left (east) and go east to
Squires Beach Rd. Turn right (south) on Squires Beach Rd. and take it south to
the T-junction at the pollution control plant at McKay Rd. Turn left (east) and
follow McKay Rd. until it becomes Jodrel Rd. where it becomes winding near the
marsh. The bird was seen in this area and down to where the road makes a hard
left turn onto Frisco Rd.
