Ontbirders, Another nice bird today, and this is a long-staying one, believe John Schmelefske first found this bird back on October 5th.
At the Everett Gravel Pit this evening around 6pm, there was 1 Hudsonian Godwit, 4 Greater Yellowlegs, a small flock of 6 Dunlin with 1 White-rumped Sandpiper in their midst. Also here were 24 Hooded Mergansers and two duck/goose hunters sitting in the middle of the pond, giving the birds some anxiety. The Godwit was calling quite frequently along with the various Yellowlegs - alarm calls for both. A good "work birding" day for me!! Good birding, Frank Pinilla Richmond Hill, ON DIRECTIONS: To view the pond/pit, take Hwy 89 west from Hwy 400 through Alliston, at Concession 4 (just past Earl Rowe PP) turn right/north to Tosorontio Sideroad 5 and turn left/west. You will see the large pond with various islands and shrubs in its midst on the north side. The Godwit moved a bit with the hunters there but tended to stay either right near the middle rocky islands or further west where there was more cover and some shallower water.
