a couple of noteworthy incidentals:1 Evening Grosbeak seen and heard flying
straight over our heads1 flock of 6 or so Bluebirds down by the "labyrinth"1
Pectoral Sandpiper. This bird fed unconcernedly in the middle of High Park's
soccer field for at least 2 hours, despite repeated attacks by the Rotten
Resident Redtails. We are now in the part of hawking season where anything goes
and the weather doesn't matter so much but if you plan to come out to the Hill
tomorrow bring your bumbershoot as well as your bins.
High Park is conveniently located just across Bloor Street from the High Park
subway station with Hawk Hill just a few minutes walk south from there, right
beside the Grenadier Restaurant. The whole park provides good birding at any
time of year. Look for Grenadier Pond with its tame Wood Ducks and the
Allotment Gardens at the foot of Allotment Road for garden birds and sparrows.
Take the paved trail between the rows of pine trees across the road from the
hockey rink to the bottom of the hill and look right to find Benny's Bird
Buffet. If you are interested but need a guide, come on a weekday and if there
are a few extras on the Hill I would be happy to take you around.
Happy Birding,Tim
