Clear skies, lots of sun, high humidity, thick haze and variable south wind predominated once again. Not the best conditions for raptor migration, but it sure filled the lot behind us with plenty of parkgoers. Raptor Observations: Slightly more manageable, the flight line ranged closer today, granting us better looks at an assortment of migrants. After taking the day off yesterday, four more Golden Eagles dropped by, pumping through along with the buteos during the morning hours. The flight again slowed to a crawl after noon, the occasional accipiter or harrier providing the only flicker of activity. Non-raptor Observations: American Crow (1500+), Red-winged Blackbird (800+), American Goldfinch (70+), Pine Siskin (15+), House Finch (6), Horned Lark (30+), Cedar Waxwing (35+), American Black Duck (2), Monarch (2) Predictions: Sunny with warm temps and light south wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
