In general, the temperature stayed around 6C and 7C with winds on average 15kph from a combination of S and W and full cloud. However, there was also that short hail storm in the morning, as well as some instances of completely sunny blue sky before clouds moved right back in again and drizzled, and the sudden and furious snow storm in the afternoon begs to not be forgotten as well. Basically it was a moody November day where every half hour the sky looked completely different; even including a dazzling rainbow! Raptor Observations: Some Red-tailed Hawks weren't really sure what to do today and flew around but never continued migrating and so three Northern Harriers made up the total of raptors leaving the country. The Osprey was out and about again, and a couple of the resident Bald Eagles made an appearance at various times through the day, popping up in all locations. Non-raptor Observations: Bonaparte's Gulls were taking full advantage of the wind, with 39 zooming all around the tower. Passerines were in short supply on migration and included 12 Rusty Blackbirds, 1 starling, and 50 American Goldfinches. The big bird of the day would really have to be the Tundra Swan. 102 of them were seen and heard in various sized groups, mostly flying to the SE. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S25815838 Predictions: A sunny day tomorrow with winds of 15kph from the west. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
