Hello Ontbird Members, Bruce Mackenzie, board member of the Hamilton Naturalists' Club, and HNC Bird Study Group Liaison, asked me to post this message on his behalf. *************************************
Dear Ontario Birders, As you may know, the RBG has recently posted *No Trespassing *signs in the area behind Olympic Park. They have asked the members of the Hamilton Naturalists' Club to refrain from using the Hopkin's Woods Special Protection Area as outlined here - https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zcLLE4OGd6cc.kAu0JVTdrEbw&usp=sharing . As the landowner, the RBG has the right to direct how users may use or enter their lands. The Hamilton Naturalists’ Club as an owner of nature sanctuaries understands the duties and obligations of natural area land management and shares the RBG's vision of managing natural lands. The Club asks Ontario birders to note the new signs and be respectful of the instructions. We also respectfully ask, now that it has been posted, that all birders not post sightings from this area on any forum. We are aware that other users, including naturalists not related to the HNC, use these properties. It is our hope that all users and members of the naturalist/birding community will be respectful of this request. The HNC will be in discussions with the RBG to further promote our mutual relationship and to find ways to assist each other in the requirements for the management and enjoyment of lands belonging to the RBG.
