Good morning! There has been another influx of birds into the park this morning, and some interesting things have been seen.
The White-winged Dove has been seen again, today at 17321 Lakeshore. The eastern part of South Point Trail was productive this morning. Highlights include a Sedge Wren right at the eastern parking lot, as well as Red-headed Woodpecker and a nice diversity of migrant warblers, vireos, sparrows and other birds. The rest of the park seems somewhat quieter, but there are birds around to be seen. Prothonotary Warblers continue at post 7 on Tulip Tree Trail, and Black-billed Cuckoo has been on that trail too. Prothonotary has been seen at Bennett Rd. again this morning, and Hooded Warbler was on nearby Spicebush Trail. White-eyed Vireo has been seen on the road between Pony Barn and Maintenance, and a Yellow-billed Cuckoo was at maintenance. Thank you to everyone who contributed sightings and please continue to do so to me through email, or to the Visitor Centre in person or at (519) 674-1768. More information on the park's nature programs and the Friends of Rondeau is available at the Friends' website: www.rondeauprovincialpark.ca. Directions: Take exit 101 from Highway 401 and drive South 16 km on Chatham Kent Road 15. Turn right and follow the signs to the park. Bird sighting information, bird checklists, bird feeders, and breakfast and lunch offered by the Friends can be found at the visitor centre. To reach the visitor centre from the park gate, travel 6 km South on Rondeau Road to Gardiner Ave., then follow it around the bend to the parking lot. I lead guided bird hikes in the park twice daily - contact the visitor centre for more information.
