The first weekend of the Huron Fringe Birding Festival resulted in a total of
171 species for hikes occurring in Bruce County, 25 of these species were
warblers.
Highlights included:Sauble Beach - three PIPING PLOVER nests and one SANDERLING
checking out the plovers.
MacGregor Point - An abundance of AMERICAN REDSTARTS from which the festival
has adopted its logo; BLUE-WINGED and GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLERS, ONE RUSTY
BLACKBIRD in non-typical habitat but confirmed with a photo.  A LEAST BITTERN
was also confirmed with a photo taken at the Ducks Unlimited Wetland in the
park.
Kincardine Lagoons - Known affectionately as "the Pelee of the North" by local
residents, the Kincardine Lagoons have met all expectations for species
diversity, including warblers.
Throughout Bruce County most other sightings are fairly typical for this time
of year.  COMMON GALLINULE, BLACK-CROWNED NIGHTHERON and SORA have all been
sighted.  Sightings of UPLAND SANDPIPER are notably down and missing from
Festival sightings are Cerulean and Hooded Warbler.
The Festival continues from June 2 to June 5, 2016.  We have some great local
and Provincially known leaders and there remains space on a number of our
outings.  Registration on-line is available.
