After nesting since early May the pair of Red-necked Grebes nesting to the east of the picnic dock in the Bronte Outer Harbour Marina have two chicks. The first clutch was lost when the nest flipped in June. On at least one occasion an egg was lost to a gull.
There is another active nest west of the picnic dock that is very close to shore and easy to observe. Their eggs have been disappearing so I do not expect hatching soon. Directions: Exit the QEW at Bronte Road and go to the lake turning left on Ontario Street, your only choice. Park east of the banquet hall and go to the water’s edge. The nests are obvious.
