Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintains records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with 'Kingston FN'. Alternatively, please email or post records
directly to me - contact details below. Please note that some sightings may
require review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise.

Highlights:

Nothing on the rarity front to report but some nice sightings were received
nonetheless. Big Sandy Bay, Wolfe Island is beginning to pick up migrant
warblers with both TENNESSEE and CANADA WARBLER there on 15th and a WILSON'S
WARBLER there today (22nd). Unusual for the area, a BLUE-GREY GNATCATCHER
was also seen there today. Nearby, at Reed's Bay, shorebirds were thin on
the ground with a single BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER being the highlight. No recent
reports from Amherst Island but both WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHER were seen at the Martin Edwards Reserve on 15th. On the less
frequently visited Snake Island, a handy haul of BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, RUDDY
TURNSTONE, SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER and SANDERLING was made on 15th. At
Charleston Lake Provincial Park, an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen on 17th.
Also noted there were 3 YELLOW-THROATED VIREOS, a species that is becoming
slightly more vocal prior to departure. COMMON NIGHTHAWKS have been moving
through the broader area this week but the only high count received from
within the circle was of 10 seen on Amherst Island on 20th. To round off, a
LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was seen up at Napanee Plain IBA, on 20th.

In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property, Kingston Field
Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy. Also note that,
as requested by the landowners, sightings of owls at the privately-owned Owl
Woods must not be shared on the Internet (this includes posting as 'Amherst
Island' on eBird) by KFN or anyone who visits. To ensure continued access to
this location, please respect their wishes and follow the guidelines posted
on-site. To maintain records for conservation purposes, sightings from that
location are welcomed through all the traditional channels.

As always, thanks to all those who have submitted sightings over the last
week.

Mark.
