Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Jennifer Lyon

Observers: Bob Johnstone, Derek Lyon, Tom Stewart

Visitors:
It was the 1st day of the 1st Open House Weekend at the hawkwatch and
though there were a few visitors no names were reported ...but with Sunday
looking like hawk migration weather day 2 promises to be a good one.

Thanks to Jen and Derek Lyon as today's counters, Tom Stewart, Bob
Johnstone and Madi.

Weather:
Rain in the 1st hour but stopped by the 2nd hour. Counters endured
extremely high winds from the SW and muggy hot temps to a high of 26C.

Raptor Observations:
Nice osprey early and then slow and steady birds throughout the day for a
total of . A resident red-tail was present kiting above the cliff at the
lake and numerous local bald eagles flew back and forth consistently. The
day's count ended on a high note with a merlin dive-bombing after a kestrel
in front of the merlin tree. And finally a Peregrine moving along the
lakeside. Pretty good day considering original prediction of all day rain.

Non-raptor Observations:
Reports of N. Flicker, Cedar Waxwings, several blue jays (with plenty more
to come!), RT Hummingbirds, Common Loon
Tree, Barn and Rough-winged swallows and on the insect front 38 Monarchs
counted along with several Viceroy,
Saddlebags and Green darners.

Predictions:
Sunday looks really good with lots of sunshine, low humidity and moderate
winds from the NW for the day.
