Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintains records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with 'Kingston FN'. Alternatively, please email or post records
directly to me - contact details below. Please note that some sightings may
require review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise.

Highlights:

Mixed weather over the last week or so has seen some local movement of
migrants but also one or two genuine highlights for the area including
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, CONNECTICUT WARBLER and an unspecified JAEGER sp.
Other good sightings have included AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, RUDDY TURNSTONE,
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER and LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE.

Kingston

In case you've missed the news, this year's OFO Convention is being held in
Kingston - from Friday-Sunday next week - and there is still time to
register! With many outings planned, you'll finally have the opportunity to
explore a number of our local hotspots. Not too many sightings from Kingston
itself this week but Marshlands CA held a couple of NORTHERN PARULA and
numerous PALM WARBLERS on 14th.

Amherst Island IBA

Plenty of good shorebirds this week at Martin Edwards Reserve; the highlight
being a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER present from 10th-13th. Also seen this week
were AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER (2 on 13th and 3 on 17th), 3 RUDDY TURNSTONE,
also on 17th, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER on 10th, 3 STILT SANDPIPER on 11th and
frequent sightings of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, SANDERLING
and the more regular peeps throughout the week. AMERICAN PIPITS are also now
frequently seen on the reserve. Please note that you must be a member of
Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) or be accompanied by a member to access the
Martin Edwards Reserve.

Wolfe Island IBA

Not too many observations from the island this week. The majority of
sightings have come from Big Sandy Bay where a regular passage of warblers
is taking place - NORTHERN PARULA, CANADA and WILSON'S WARBLERS have all
been seen with a latish NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH seen there on 15th. Also seen
this week were several SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, a single GREY-CHEEKED THRUSH,
and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW, also on 15th. On nearby Garden Island
(privately-owned), a CAROLINA WREN has been seen regularly this past week
but of significant interest is a probable Barn Owl seen on 10th and 12th but
not since.

Other Sightings

A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER seen at Camden Lake Provincial Wildlife Area on the
9th is a local rarity, though the LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE seen on 8th is more
typical, despite its location at Wilton Creek, near Napanee. A CONNECTICUT
WARBLER, seen on private property near Verona, on 17th is certainly
noteworthy. Finally, an unidentified species of JAEGER was seen at Howe
Island on 11th, where the first BONAPARTE'S GULLS of the season were also
seen.

In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property, Kingston Field
Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy. Also note that,
as requested by the landowners, sightings of owls at the privately-owned Owl
Woods must not be shared on the Internet (this includes posting as 'Amherst
Island' on eBird) by KFN or anyone who visits. To ensure continued access to
this location, please respect their wishes and follow the guidelines posted
on-site. To maintain records for conservation purposes, sightings from that
location are welcomed through all the traditional channels.

As always, thanks to all those who have submitted sightings over the last
week.

Mark.
