Weather: Winds were from the south and east today, with variable speeds throughout the day (2.2 to 18.3 km/hr). Barometric pressure remained steady and cloud cover was low all day. Raptor Observations: Sharp-shinned Hawks were moving throughout the day, and to a lesser extent so were Northern Harriers. Turkey Vultures began moving in greater numbers after noon. We recorded more of this species (341) than during any other count yet this season. Several small kettles and streams of Broad-winged Hawks were spotted after 9. Non-raptor Observations: Over 1,400 Blue Jays, 16 Monarch butterflies, and 69 Red-winged Blackbirds flew over today. Predictions: Morning showers could deter migrants from flying tomorrow. Winds will be from the west, which also may hinder movement. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
