Weather: Winds were primarily WSW throughout the day, becoming quite gusty by the early afternoon. Skies were mostly clear. Raptor Observations: Migration was somewhat slow today, with most birds passing before the heavier winds started. Turkey Vultures and Sharp-shinned Hawks dominated the count, with a couple Kestrels, Northern Harriers, and a single Merlin. Local Bald Eagles were present throughout the entire day, and a local Osprey put on a nice "fishing" show near the count site. Non-raptor Observations: Large numbers of Blue Jays (500+) were seen moving early in the day north of the count location. Predictions: The day will begin with S and SE winds. Predictions call for a greater chance of rain as the day progresses. Significant raptor movement would not be expected. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
