Total observation time: 8 hours
Official Counter: Sean Jenniskens
Observers: Bob Hall-Brooks, Dan Loncke, Ian Woodfield, Jim McCoy,
Jordan Burton, Michael Williamson
Visitors:
Visitors today were made up of some old counters and helpers up on the
tower. Wayne T. and his son Jason came up for a short visit, and old
counter Todd P. was on the tower briefly later in the afternoon.
Weather:
Very strong winds from the SW all day today, keeping birds low and easy to
see!
Raptor Observations:
4 Merlin and 5 Peregrine Falcons were the highlights of the day, all other
numbers low. Most of the birds other, than the two mentioned previously,
were having a hard time fighting the winds.
Non-raptor Observations:
22,120 Blue Jays were counted migrating. Dabbling ducks seem to be starting
to increase a little more despite hunting going on in the marsh. Low
Warbler numbers but decently high diversity in the shrubs around the tower
with 9 species being observed. For the full eBird checklist go to
http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S31786538 3 Black Saddlebags and 2
Monarchs were observed.
Predictions:
Rain is predicted for the entire day tomorrow, with moderate eastward
winds.
