Visitors:
Yesterday's couple from Ohio were back again today before heading home, and
were able to watch the Peregrine Falcon go after the Blue Jay with us.
Weather:
Mostly clear skies, and very light winds between the NE to the S.
Raptor Observations:
Not as good of a day as yesterday, but it was fairly steady. Sharp-shinned
Hawks, and Turkey Vultures were again the most numerous. 41 Red-tailed
Hawks was a decent count, and 7 each of Broad-winged and Red-shouldered. 3
Peregrine Falcons. The highlight was one of the adult Peregrines knocking a
Blue Jay into the pond below the tower, and all were able to watch the
Peregrine make a number of close passes down over the water trying to pick
up the jay, which it was eventually able to do.
Non-raptor Observations:
Not quite as much migration as yesterday, but birds were still moving!
22,400 Blue Jays, 735 Red-winged Blackbirds, 46 Yellow-rumped
Warblers(Myrtle), and 36 other individual Warblers. For the full eBird
checklist, go to http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S31894302 3 each of
Black Saddlebags and Green Darners, and 22 Monarchs were counted.
Predictions:
Mainly sunny with moderate South winds all day.
