Visitors:
Lots of visitors to see the birds today!
Weather:
Very little clouds today, with moderately strong N to WNW winds.
Raptor Observations:
An excellent day on the tower today! Good numbers of Turkey Vultures going
through, as well as Sharp-shinned, and Red-tailed Hawks. Highlight was a
definitive Juvenile Swainson's Hawk! Which appeared with a stream of Turkey
Vultures at 4:45pm local time! In addition to that bird, we had a possible
Swainson's Hawk at 3:25, which has not been confirmed and has gone down as
an unknown raptor for now. Another note, we had our first Rough-legged Hawk
of the year! A beautiful intermediate-dark morph, likely male, that came in
low, below tower level and gave us some gorgeous views.
Non-raptor Observations:
The Plegadis Ibis sp. was observed again, this time doing a couple flybys
of the tower first thing this morning. 1,730 American Crows migrated past
the tower today, as well as 54 Blue Jays. For the full eBird checklist, go
to http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S32160716
Predictions:
Winds to start out in the W, switching to the SW in the afternoon. Mostly
sunny skies.
