Hello to all my Hawkwatching friends; I regret to say that from now on I must stick to the numbers but its been great fun reporting and thanks for all your encouragement.. Today was one of the best ever for high Park. We had perfect Raptor weather with Northwest winds. I got my woolies out this morning to make sure the moths had left me my share. We saw Turkey Vultures by the Committee - 418 Bald Eagles by the Convocation - 3 Harriers by the Harrassment - 5 Sharpies by the Guard - 129 Coopers by the Barrel - 3 Red Shoulders by the Epaulette - 28 Red Tails by the Ubiquity - 351 Rough Legs by the Variation - 1 (so its not really collective but why break the spell) Am. Kestrels by the Compactness - 1 and Unidentified Raptors by the Distance - 2 Come on out tomorrow, the Park is a fine sight and I don't think the Raptors are nearly as done yet as the Bluejays. If you don't have binoculars we will lend you a pair for the day. Hawk Hill is in the middle of Toronto's High Park, right beside the Grenadier Restaurant. High Park is a fantastic place for birding any time but right now Benny's Buffet is worth seeing and of course Grenadier Pond. Go there to see a merry-go-rounds of Shoveller Ducks. When at the Hill you may get a Bluebird. There is sporadic bus service to the Restaurant but I recommend taking the subway and getting off at High Park station to walk South through the Park. Get there early if you're driving or you'll have to fight for a parking space. Dress warmly and We'll see you tomorrow.
